Provisional Driving Licence
To apply for a provisional licence pick up a D1 Application form from the Post Office. Return the completed form along with two passport sized photos, the correct I. D. and the payment of £50.00 to the DVLA Swansea
The Theory and Hazard Perception Tests
The theory test consists of 50 multi-choice questions and is 50 minutes in duration. The questions are based on the Highway code and road safety issues.
The pass you must answer at least 43 questions correctly.
The hazard perception test consists of fourteen video clips and is designed to measure your ability to recognize road hazards. Thirteen of the clips contain a single hazard and one contains two.
The pass you must score at least 44 points out of a possible 75.
The fee for both tests is £31.00. Both tests are taken on the same day and you must pass both in order to gain your certificate. Fail either one of the tests and you will have to re-take both.

Show Me, Tell Me Test
This requires you to carry out basic safety checks on your driving test vehicle. In order to pass you will need to answer two questions correctly.

The Practical Driving Test
Lasting up to 40 minutes the practical test aims to assess your understanding of the Highway code and your ability to drive safely on various types of roads and in different traffic conditions.
As well as showing that you are a safe and competent driver you will also have to successfully perform two reversing manoeuvres - either a parallel park, a bay park or a turn in the road. You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop.
To successfully pass the test, you will have to complete the test without scoring more than 15 minor driving faults or any dangerous or serious driving faults.
Daytime practical tests cost £62.00. Take your practical test in the evening or at a weekend and it will cost you £75.00.
Independent Driving
From October the 4th all candidates taking the practical test will be asked to spend around 10 minutes demonstrating their ability to drive safely without step-by-step directions from an examiner. For further details including a video click here.
